Which types of edge sharpeners?
Edge sharpeners differ by their abrasion technology and their level of automation.
- Ceramic discs: the DTS-U II Race automatically sharpens all four edges in a single pass (HQT process), the R.off.B AC28-R Tuning Pro uses ceramic discs with a variable angle from 86 to 90°.
- Belt: the KSM (86 to 90°, small footprint) and the R.off.B LA14S R30 Newedge (85 to 90°).
- Base edge bevelling machines: the KFM-U polishes the base edge on rubber discs, the R.off.B TP25-R45 combines sharpening and base edge bevelling.
Choosing by angle and volume
First check the angle range: the DTS-U II Race sets the side angle from 86° to 90° and the base edge from 0° to 2°. To understand what these angles change on the ski, read our guide to edge angle.
Volume matters too: the DTS-U II Race sheet gives a full cycle of about 30 seconds, and the robots build an edge sharpener into an automatic process. For a detailed comparison, see the Reichmann comparison.
The brands in the range
The machines come from Reichmann, whose exclusive distributor in France is Chatex, and from R.off.B for the Ecoline range. Sharpening consumables (stones, gummi stones, edge guides) are in the edge tools.
